A balloon is a flexible bag which is filled with gas. Depending on the gas used in them, some of them will ‘float’ in the air. Some balloons are just for decroative purposes only, others are used for specific purposes such as in surgery to clear blocked arteries. Early balloons were made of dried animal bladders - today, it is more common for balloons to be made of plastic or rubber.
