A mattress is a piece of bedding filled with resilient materials, often with coiled springs or multiple layers of foam and fibre, which is used as a part of a bed on which you lie.
There are many different types of mattress on the market. Some are made from hypo-allergenic materials to help people who suffer from allergies; Some can be filled with water - these are meant to help people with back problems; The most common form of mattress is filled with layers of foam and has springs inside it.
Mattresses come in a variety of sizes to fit the ranges of bed - single, queen-sized and king-sized. Mattresses come in a range of covering materials and a range of fillings. Each mattress will also have a different softness to them - some mattresses will be very firm; others will be soft and you will ‘fall’ into them.
In the past, mattresses had to be turned to ensure even wear on the mattress. These days, many mattresses do not need to be turned.
