Anti aging creams are one of the hottest products around at the moment. They are heavily advertised and promise to make the customer look younger by reducing wrinkles and improving skin tone. Some of the products potentially could have good effects on the skin, such as the use of retinol and alpha hydroxy acids, however the effects are not proven and many believe that these companies are preying on the insecurities of many women. The ’scientific data’ which is often collected by companies carry the hallmarks of placebos - they are based on women’s perceptions when asked if they think they look younger, rather than by any form of rigorous scientific anaylsis.
