Marquees
Filed Under: Entertainment, Home and Garden
A marquee is a type of tent. It consists of sheets of fabric or other material draped over poles which are dug into the ground. The material should be fire-retardant in order to help prevent fires.
Marquees are normally fairly large and can house a number of people. They are also tall enough that people can stand underneath them without having to duck. Marquees can be used if there is the threat of rain so that people can shelter under them, or they can be used as a shady place on hot summer days.
Marquees are often used for parties, such as garden parties, birthday parties or weddings, and often shelter the food to try and keep the food at a good temperature. Marquees are most often seen in green or white colours, although they do come in the full range.
Marquees vary in size - from small 5m x 5m sized ones right up to huge ones which can hold over 100 people. Some marquees are used in corporate events as almost ‘holding’ pens for people where large numbers of people come together to meet.
Marquees are a versatile way of providing shelter no matter what the weather or the occasion.
