Projectors
A projector is an electronic device which takes an image from a smaller device and enlarges it by projecting it onto a wall or screen. Most modern projectors can correct curviness, blurriness and inconsistencies to ensure that the enlarged picture is fairly clear.
The cost of a projector depends on the resolution it can output, the type of technology it uses, it’s light output, contrast and noise levels. Most modern projects will ensure that the picture is well lit, however it is usual for lights to be dimmed when looking a a projector’s picture to ensure the best possible picture.
There are five main technologies used in projectors:
CRT PROJECTOR: Uses cathode ray tubes. Minimal maintenance required. This is the oldest kind of projector currently in use. Has a chunky, large base unit which is very bulky
LCD PROJECTOR: Uses LCD light gates. Is the simplest projector system. Very affordable therefore common in both home cinemas and offices. Sometimes has problems with pixelation.
DLP PROJECTOR: Uses 1-2 microfabricated light valves clled digital micromirror devices.
LCOS PROJECTOR: Uses liquid crystal on silicon
D-ILA: JVC-specific technology based on LCOS technology.
