Mobile Phones

Mobile phones are sometimes also known as cellular phones or cell phones. As their name suggests, mobile phones are portable telephone units. Originally designed for just making phone calls, the current crop of mobile phones have a whole host of different functions. Some of these functions include:
- MMS (for sending and receiving picture messages)
- SMS (for sending and receiving text messages)
- Mobile phone games
- Calendar functions
- Alarm clock functions, date/time functions
- Internet connection

Nokia is the largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. Other well-known manufacturers of mobile phones include:
- Sony Ericsson
- LG
- Motorola
- Panasonic
- Samsung
- Sharp

amongst many others.

There are two major ways to pay for your phone calls on your mobile phone - pre-pay (sometimes known as ‘pay as you go’) and contract. With pre-pay, you ‘top’ your phone up with credit in advance of the calls. With a contract, you pay a set amount of money each month for a basic pacakge, and a few pence extra for any additional calls or texts you might make on top of your basic mobile phone package.
