Laptops are sometimes known as laptop computers, notebook computers or notebooks. A laptop is a small mobile computer - although actual dimensions and weights will depend on the laptop specification and model.

The idea is that the laptop is very portable, so it should be fairly light and have good battery capabilities. Laptops can run both off battery power and off mains power too.

Laptops should be capable of the same tasks as a standard desktop PC, however for the same price comparison, they are normally a lot less powerful. Although laptops are similar to desktops, their parts are normally miniaturised and optimized for mobile usage, which is why they are more expensive on a like-for-like basis.
