Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturer. Toyota are a multinational company and in 2006, sold over 9 million vehicles. Toyota is the world’s 8th largest company with revenues reaching $179 billion in 2006.

Toyota was founded in 1933 and created their first engine in 1934, followed closely in 1936 with their first ever passenger car. Since then, Toyota has grown every year and many analysts are predicting Toyota will soon take over from General Motors are the largest auto-maker in the world.

Toyota’s primary brand is unsurprisingly, Toyota and is their best selling brand. However, Toyota also own other brands. Lexus is one of these brands and is Toyota’s luxury car division. Toyota also own Scion, a UNS, Guam and Puerto-Rico only divsion of Toyota - a new brand, formed only in 2003.

Toyota are not just car manufacturers - they also have a hand in Formula One racing where they have a team. Toyota also like to focus on new technologies - right now, they have some new hybrid technologies out which can be seen in it’s hybrid vehicles- the Toyota Prius, the Toyota Highlander and the Toyota Camry. The Toyota Sienna is rumoured to also be joining this band of hybrid motorvehicles soon.
